Lot’s Cisterns are kind of in the middle of nowhere (about 5-6km from the Egyptian border). To get there from the north, drive south on Road 40 in the directoin of Mitzpe Ramon. About 6km before you get to Mitzpe Ramon, turn right on Road 171. Pass the firing ranges and military structures for a couple of kilometers and then drive out into the middle of nowhere.
This is a little-used road and you are likely to be the only one on it (except for military vehicles). After about 20 minutes (or more, if you drive slowly), there will be a sign on the right for Borot Lotz. This will bring you to a parking area (which also happens to have bathrooms).
The best time to go is between February and April when the flowers are in blook. But it is really pretty even outside of that. And the location is more than 900 meters above sea level, so it should be pleasant even in the summer.
There is a trail map at the entrance. There are four trails. The cisterns trail is the red loop, which is about 4km. It is a straightforward, easy trail that takes about an hour and a half. There are 17 cisterns (carved out of the limestone bedrok during the early bronze age – Canaanite period) and the red loops takes you to around 8 of them. There are also extensive terraces from the same period.
