Sefunim Loop Hike

Jan 18, 2020 | Hikes and Trails

Type: Loop
Time: 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy

The entrance to the trail is right off of Rout 4. Drive to the Nachal Sefunim bus stop. There is a small dirt parking area right by it that fits about 2 cars.

To begin the hike, walk away from the parking area and the main road (east) on the dirt road. There are tall trees bordering a banana plantaiton on your left.

After a minute or two, you will reach a small gate. Go through the gate and close it behind you.

Continue straight on the Red Trail. You will pass an old abandoned mine (built by the English).

Continue straight. After about 20 minutes of climbing, you will reach the bat caves on your right (south). If you hit the Blue Trail, you went too far. You are allowed to enter the cave and briefly shine a flashlight at the bats, but it smells terrible and you will probably get shat on.

After you finish up in the cave, continue for a minute or two on the Red Trail until you reach the Blue Trail heading off to the right. Take the Blue Trail and climb the mountain.

Continue on the Blue Trail, which goes west above the caves. After about 25 minutes, you will descend into and quickly out of an unnamed branch of the river.

The trail now heads in a westerly direction on a plateau for about 30 minutes until you reach the Megadim cliffs, which overlook the coastal plane. The trail follows the cliff edge until it reaches a gap.

Continue on the trail as it goes south through the gap and along the side of the cliff. After a few minutes, there will be a shallow cave.

A few minutes later, the trail passes some ruins, and ends at the gate below the old mine (from the start of the trail). Walk back to your car from there.
